Why aren't these Sacramento prices?
No public source tracks pest control prices for Sacramento. The guides cited here compile national data, so local prices can land above or below them. Use the ranges to spot a quote that's far out of line, then compare written estimates that list the pest, method, pesticides, number of visits and any warranty terms.
For termite work, UC IPM suggests getting at least three inspection reports. The Structural Pest Control Board warns against companies that pressure you to sign right away with specials or scare tactics, and you can verify any company on the DCA License Search.
How much is pest control per month?
Monthly visits run about $31 to $56 each in Fixr's 2025 data, and $40 to $70 per month, or $600 to $1,300 a year, in Bob Vila's 2023 guide. Quarterly visits are $98 to $178 each (Fixr) or $110 to $250 each (Bob Vila).
A plan isn't always needed. UC IPM recommends asking companies to use baits and spot treatments for ants rather than perimeter treatments or monthly sprays, and it calls sealing out rodents the longest-lasting fix.
How much is an exterminator for mice or rats?
Fixr's 2025 national guide puts mouse extermination at $450 to $600, averaging about $525 for a consultation, traps, sealant and follow-up. Rat extermination runs $500 to $750, averaging $600, and usually includes sealing entry points, traps or bait and cleanup. Professional exclusion alone costs $175 to $500 in the same guide, more if there are many holes.
This Old House's 2026 guide puts mice at $180 to $600 and rat extermination at $395 to $1,500 or more. UC IPM notes that sealing out roof rats usually takes more time than Norway rats because they climb and get in high on the house, so ask whether attic and roofline sealing is included.
How much do termite inspection and treatment cost?
Inspections cost about $150 to $350 in Fixr's guide and $75 to $325 in This Old House's; Fixr notes some companies credit the fee toward treatment.
Treatment depends on the termite. Subterranean termites are usually treated with liquid soil insecticides, at $4 to $14.50 per linear foot (Fixr), or bait systems. Drywood termites spread through the house may need tent fumigation, at $1,570 to $2,857 (Fixr) or $1,500 to $5,000 (This Old House), or whole-structure heat. Spot treatments cost less but, as the Structural Pest Control Board notes, they leave hidden infestations untouched.
How much is a bed bug exterminator?
Fixr's national data, last updated in 2022, put bed bug treatment at $500 to $2,000, averaging about $1,000. Per room, heat runs $100 to $500 and chemical treatment $200 to $600. This Old House's 2026 guide lists $1,000 to $4,000, and Bob Vila's 2023 guide puts whole-home heat at $2,000 to $6,000.
Ask how many follow-up inspections are included; UC IPM says monitoring after treatment confirms the bugs are gone. Renters should report bed bugs to the landlord in writing first.
How much is an exterminator for roaches, ants or wasps?
Cockroach treatment runs $150 to $450 in Fixr's 2025 guide and $100 to $600 in This Old House's 2026 guide. Ant treatment is $200 to $300 in Fixr's 2022 data and $100 to $500 in This Old House's guide.
Wasp nest removal costs $325 to $450 in Fixr's guide, with ground nests starting around $200 and nests inside walls at $350 to $875. This Old House lists $300 to $700. In Sacramento and Yolo counties, check with the vector control district first; it may treat nests in the ground, trees or walls.
What makes pest control cost more?
These factors push a quote up, according to the cost guides above.
- Pest type: termites and bed bugs cost the most to treat
- Infestation size: pests are cheapest to handle when first noticed
- Access: attics, crawlspaces and nests inside walls take more labor
- Home size: This Old House lists $250 to $450 for a 1,000 sq ft home and $450 to $750 for 3,000 sq ft
- Repairs: replacing termite-damaged wood or sealing many openings adds cost
- Timing: Fixr says emergency, night or weekend termite visits can add $100 to $200
